This policy describes how I collect, protect, and use the information you give me. If you are asked to provide information, it will only be used in ways stated in this policy.

  • Information regarding your project (word count, genre, title, etc.)

My website host collects the following data for their site analytics.

  • Information about your browser, network, and device

  • Web pages you visited prior to coming to this website

  • Your IP address

Why I collect data and how I use it

I gather and use certain information as follows:

  • To respond to your requests for information about my services.

  • To contact you during an ongoing project.

  • To better understand how visitors use this website.

  • For my internal accounting processes and so that I am compliant with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), should it request an audit.

  • To add general information about your project to my portfolio after the project is completed and published.

How I use cookies

This website uses cookies and similar technologies, which are small files or pieces of text that download to a device when a visitor accesses a website or app. I use cookies for web analytics, specifically:

  • Squarespace Analytics

  • Statcounter

You can use your web browser’s cookie settings to determine how my website uses cookies. If you do not want my website to store cookies on your computer or device, you can amend your settings. Please note that this may affect how my website functions, and some pages may become unavailable to you.

How I collect your data

I collect and store minimal information via the following forms:

  • Email

  • Contact form

  • Scheduler/intake questionnaire

  • Mailchimp sign-up forms (Editor Insights, free guide, workshops)

I will never lease, distribute, or sell your information to third parties unless I have your permission to do so, or I am required to do so by law.

Data Storage

The information I collect is stored on the following data servers:

  • Project files and other project-tracking documents are stored on a password-protected computer accessible only by me.

  • Files are regularly backed up to an external hard drive, stored in a secure location.

  • Squarespace. This is my website host. View Squarespace’s privacy policy here.

  • Backblaze. This is my cloud-based storage and data backup system accessed via my password-protected computer. My Backblaze account is protected by a password-authentication process. View Backblaze’s privacy policy here.

  • PayPal. This is one of two password-protected online payment services I use for collecting fees. Your data will be used for accounting purposes only and will never be divulged to third parties. View PayPal’s privacy policy here.

  • Stripe. This is one of two password-protected online payment services I use for collecting fees. Your data will be used for accounting purposes only and will never be divulged to third parties. View Stripe’s privacy policy here.

  • Dubsado. This is the project and client management system I use for keeping track of my workflow tasks. View Dubsado’s privacy policy here.

  • Mailchimp. This is the newsletter service I use to distribute my Editor Insights newsletter. View Mailchimp’s privacy policy here.

  • Zapier. This is the online automation software I use to integrate several of the above websites, such as Squarespace to Mailchimp. View Zapier’s privacy policy here.

  • Google Workspace. Gmail is my email provider, which I use in connection with Dubsado to send you email reminders about your project. View Google’s privacy policy here.

How long I keep your data

Because many of my clients work with me on an ongoing basis, and sometimes there can be a year or more between projects, I do not delete data unless specifically requested to do so. The IRS requires me to keep records for at least 7 years after the relevant tax year.

With whom I share your data

Your pen name, book title, and/or book cover may be displayed in my online portfolio after the project is completed and the book is published. This information, along with your release date, may be shared on my social media. I do not use any of your data for marketing or promotional purposes without your consent. No other information is shared with anyone outside of Richelle Braswell Comprehensive Editing, unless you request that I do so in writing, or the IRS elects to audit my business.
